Term / Annual Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation

How to Calculate?

This calculator will help you calculate your grade point average (GPA) for your current semester or your chosen courses. Simply enter the credits for each course and the letter grade you received. The numerical values corresponding to the letter grades (e.g. AA=4.00, BB=3.00, etc.) may vary depending on your university's grading system; the values here are a general example.

GPA = (Σ (Course Credit * Letter Grade Numerical Value)) / (Σ Course Credit)

  • Example: You received an AA (4.00) in a 3-credit course and a BB (3.00) in a 4-credit course.
    • GPA = ((3 * 4.00) + (4 * 3.00)) / (3 + 4) = (12.00 + 12.00) / 7 = 24.00 / 7 ≈ 3.43

Cumulative GPA (CGPA) Calculation

New Term Courses:

How to Calculate?

Cumulative GPA (CGPA) shows your average across your academic career. This calculator combines your previous semesters' GPA and the total credits you've completed with your current semester's course grades to find your current GPA.

New GPA = ((Previous GPA * Previous Total Credit) + New Term Total Credit Score) / (Previous Total Credit + New Term Total Credit)

  • Example: Previous CGPA: 2.85 (60 credits). In the new semester, you received AA (4.00) from 3 credit courses and BB (3.00) from 4 credit courses.
    • Previous Credit Score = 2.85 * 60 = 171
    • New Term Credit Score = (3 * 4.00) + (4 * 3.00) = 12 + 12 = 24
    • New Total Credit = 60 + 3 + 4 = 67
    • New GPA = (171 + 24) / 67 = 195 / 67 ≈ 2.91

Target GPA Reaching Calculator

How to Calculate?

This calculator helps you strategize to achieve your academic goals. Using your current GPA, the number of credits you have completed, the target GPA you want to achieve, and the total credits you have left, it calculates the average number of remaining courses you need to take to reach that goal.

Required Average from Remaining Courses = ((Target GPA * (Completed Credits + Remaining Credits)) - (Current CGPA * Completed Credits)) / Remaining Credits

  • Example: Current GPA: 2.60 (75 credits). Target GPA: 3.00. Remaining credits: 45.
    • Total Points Required = (3.00 * (75 + 45)) - (2.60 * 75) = (3.00 * 120) - 195 = 360 - 195 = 165
    • Required Average from Remaining Courses = 165 / 45 ≈ 3.67
    • This means you must get an average of 3.67 (approximately BA-AA) on the remaining 45 credits.

What is GPA and Why is it Important?

GPA (Grade Point Average) or as it is called in Türkiye **AGNO (Weighted Cumulative Grade Point Average)**, is a numerical value that shows the academic success of a student. It is usually calculated on a 4.00 system and is the average obtained by weighting the credits of the grades a student receives from his courses.

GPA not only reflects your academic standing, but also plays a significant role in scholarship applications, graduation degrees (e.g. honors, high honors), internship and job applications, and admissions to graduate/doctoral programs. A high GPA can open doors to future academic and career opportunities.
