How to Calculate?
This calculator will help you calculate your grade point average (GPA) for your current semester or your chosen courses. Simply enter the credits for each course and the letter grade you received. The numerical values corresponding to the letter grades (e.g. AA=4.00, BB=3.00, etc.) may vary depending on your university's grading system; the values here are a general example.
GPA = (Σ (Course Credit * Letter Grade Numerical Value)) / (Σ Course Credit)
-
Example:
You received an AA (4.00) in a 3-credit course and a BB (3.00) in a 4-credit course.
- GPA = ((3 * 4.00) + (4 * 3.00)) / (3 + 4) = (12.00 + 12.00) / 7 = 24.00 / 7 ≈ 3.43
What is GPA and Why is it Important?
GPA (Grade Point Average) or as it is called in Türkiye **AGNO (Weighted Cumulative Grade Point Average)**, is a numerical value that shows the academic success of a student. It is usually calculated on a 4.00 system and is the average obtained by weighting the credits of the grades a student receives from his courses.
GPA not only reflects your academic standing, but also plays a significant role in scholarship applications, graduation degrees (e.g. honors, high honors), internship and job applications, and admissions to graduate/doctoral programs. A high GPA can open doors to future academic and career opportunities.
Grading Systems and Conversions:
- Universities often assign specific numerical equivalents (4.00, 3.50, 3.00, etc.) to letter grades (AA, BA, BB, CC, etc.). These equivalents may vary from university to university.
- Some universities in Türkiye may also use a 100-point grading system. GPA calculators can help you convert between these different systems.
Tips to Increase GPA:
- Regular Study: Regularly repeating and understanding the topics increases exam success.
- Class Participation: Being active in lessons, asking questions and participating in discussions reinforces learning.
- Time Management: Balancing work and rest hours increases productivity.
- Don't Hesitate to Get Help: Consult your professors, teaching assistants, or peer groups on topics you do not understand.
- Pay Attention to Credit Weight: Getting good grades in high-credit courses will raise your GPA faster.
- Goal Setting: Set achievable goals for yourself using tools like the "Target GPA Calculator" on this page.
These GPA calculators provide approximate results based on the data entered and general grading systems. Please note that your university or institution may have its own specific grading rules and rounding methods.
