Paint Quantity Calculator

Surface Area to be Painted

Calculate wall or surface area by entering length and height/width values.

Wall 1
Wall 2 (Optional)

Gaps (Door/Window)

Enter the total area or dimensions of areas such as doors and windows that will not be painted and deduct them.

No spaces were added.

Paint Details

m²/liter

This value is written on the paint packaging. It is usually how many square meters of area 1 liter of paint can paint in one coat.

floor

Generally, 2 coats of paint are recommended, but can be increased depending on the condition of the surface or color change.

kg/liter

If you want to see the amount of paint in kilograms instead of liters, enter its density. It is usually written on the paint can.

%

Percentage added for spills, waste or brush/roller losses that may occur while painting.

This calculator helps you estimate the amount of paint (in litres or kilograms) needed to paint an area. Factors such as wall/surface dimensions, gaps such as doors and windows, paint coverage, number of coats to be applied and possible wastage rates are included in the calculation.

Net Area to be Painted = (Total Wall Areas) - (Total Clearance Areas)

Required Paint (Liters) = (Net Area to be Painted × Number of Layers / Paint Coverage Rate) × (1 + Waste Rate / 100)

Paint Required (Kg) = Paint Required (Litre) × Paint Density

  • Net Area to be Painted: Actual area to be painted after deducting doors, windows, etc. (m²).
  • Paint Coverage Ratio: The area that 1 litre of paint can paint in a single coat (m²/litre). It is stated on the paint packaging.
  • Number of Floors: How many layers of paint will be applied.
  • Paint Density: Weight of paint per litre (kg/litre).
  • Waste Rate: Percentage (%) added for possible spillage, wastage or absorption differences during dyeing.

Important Note: The values in this calculator are estimates, many factors such as the absorbency of the surface, the quality of the paint, the application method (brush, roller, spray) and the workmanship can affect the actual paint consumption. Especially in professional projects or large areas, it is always useful to have some extra paint (keep the waste rate high) or to consult an expert.

Why is Paint Quantity Calculation Important?

Painting a space is both costly and time-consuming. Calculating the amount of paint needed correctly is crucial for the **efficiency, budget control and environmental impact** of the project:

Paint Coverage Rate and Number of Layers:

Two of the most important factors affecting the amount of paint are the **paint coverage rate** and **number of layers to be applied**.

Importance of Gaps and Waste Rate:

When calculating the wall area, deducting **gaps such as doors and windows** prevents unnecessary paint purchases. Since these areas will not be painted, they should be subtracted from the total surface area.

**Waste rate** is the excess added to compensate for losses that inevitably occur during the dyeing process. These losses may include:

For typical interior painting, a waste rate of 5-10% is considered safe. For professional applications or complex surfaces, this rate can be increased.

Application Areas:

The information provided by this calculator is for general planning and estimating purposes. Variables such as the condition of the surface (roughness, absorbency), specific properties of the paint (quality, viscosity), application tool (brush, roller, spray) and quality of workmanship can significantly affect the actual paint consumption. For delicate projects or large-scale applications, it is always recommended to consult a paint specialist or supplier.
